Safe laparoscopy during COVID-19 pandemic by SARS-CoV-2: bio innovation of the closed-circuit system

Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission during laparoscopy while using energy devices through the carbon dioxide pneumoperitoneum is a big concern in operation theatre. So, we had to alter way vent closed-circuit system (CCS) avoid contamination.Methods: We did prospective study safety of CCS elective laparoscopic surgeries. recruited 184 patients from single unit three quarters. The first quarter 52 where SARS-CoV-2 status was unknown as rapid antigen test (RAT) and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT- PCR) not done per government guidelines. presumed all be potential carriers. Later 2nd 3rd 132 patients; were tested by RAT/RT-PCR positive excluded our study. Postoperatively observed for COVID-19 symptoms health care workers (HCW) confirmed RT-PCR.Results: Of total surgeries performed this period, only (1.09%) developed 1st when routine testing RT-PCR done. None (100%) HCW COVID-19.Conclusions: Closed circuit an innovative safe technique laparoscopy. strongly recommend before surgery.
